
Former UAAP and PBA standout Jervy Cruz could have easily built a basketball-themed project for his hometown of Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija — the sport where he made his mark and eventually earned a seat as town councilor.
But for Cruz, it made more sense to champion a passion that already runs deep in his community.
“Cycling is a big thing here,” said Cruz, noting how races often pass through their small town. “Every now and then, there’ll be races here and we’re used to having races pass on our roads.”
That local enthusiasm inspired him to push for Nampicuan to host this year’s Solid North Larga Pilipinas, happening November 29 and 30. After witnessing the success of previous Larga Pilipinas legs, Cruz brought the idea to Mayor Mario Lacurom, helping put his hometown back on the national cycling map.
